A celebration of the fantastic hard work happening across primary care in Hertfordshire and west Essex to improve patient and community health has taken place.

The inaugural Celebrating Primary Care Achievements 2023, held online on 11 October, showcased a wealth of different NHS primary care services including those delivered by GP practices, pharmacies, dental practices, and opthamology.

Nearly 80 nominations were made highlighting projects, teams and individuals across 12 categories.

Included in the winners were:

  • Schopwick Surgery, Bushey, for its “dedication to education and innovation”
  • Liz Richards at Lodge Health Partnership, Welwyn Garden City for being “a beacon who recognises the importance of staff well-being” and initiatives to support staff
  • Wellswood Pharmacy, Borehamwood for “delivering excellent patient care to the community on a daily basis”
  • Jan Williamson, Much Hadham Health Centre Patient Group Member, for her “pioneering approach” in setting up Ash Valley community hub.

Avni Shah, Director of Primary Care Transformation at the ICB, praised the nominees and the primary care workforce at large: “I want to say a huge thank you to every member of the primary care workforce team without whom we would not be providing high-quality primary care services for our population.

“The awards ceremony has been one way we can show recognition and appreciation of all the members of the workforce and allow us to see the impact of continuous improvement, and what it means as for patients, families, communities and the primary care workforce staff.

“I know all the teams work hard to ensure there is continuous improvement in primary care, rising to every challenge given all the complex conditions we're experiencing. It was fantastic to see a real showing of unity and positivity in the ceremony, and our congratulations to everyone. It makes us so proud.”
