Free blood pressure and BMI (Body Mass Index) checks are on offer at our five large vaccination centres alongside the chance to get a COVID vaccination.
Nurses from Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust will be offering free blood pressure and BMI checks, for adults aged 18 and over, and offering health and wellbeing advice.
Dr Rachel Joyce, Medical Director at Hertfordshire and West Essex said: “The checks we are offering and the conversations with an experienced nurse might help people make those small lifestyle changes like quitting smoking, eating more healthily, getting active, losing weight, and cutting down on alcohol. These can make a real difference to your risk of developing serious conditions like heart disease and type 2 diabetes. The NHS locally is trying to make the most of every opportunity to talk to people about their wellbeing so that people can make the changes that will have a really beneficial effect on their health.”
The NHS team at the centre will create a welcoming environment so that people can feel comfortable talking about any issues they may be experiencing. The team will offer to measure blood pressure, height, and weight. They will be able to provide advice on healthy eating, how to give up smoking, drinking sensibly and tips on being physically active as well as improving mental health and wellbeing.
Visitors will also be able to get any COVID-19 vaccinations they are due at the same time. Getting vaccinated is the best way to protect yourself and others from infection and illness from COVID-19.
These sessions will help people to start important conversations about their health and to see what they can do to take action to help themselves.
