World Maternal Mental Health Day 4 May 2023

It is natural to feel a lot of different emotions when pregnant. But if you’re feeling sad and it is starting to affect your life, it may be time to try things that may help.

Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week (1-7 May 2023) is a week-long campaign dedicated to talking about mental health problems before, during and after pregnancy. There is also a World Maternal Mental Health Day on Thursday 4 May.

It is natural to feel a lot of different emotions when pregnant. But if you’re feeling sad and it is starting to affect your life, it may be time to try things that may help.

Always speak to a doctor or midwife if the things you're trying yourself are not helping you. They may be able to offer you additional support, for example, they may be able to refer you to perinatal mental health services (perinatal means the time you are pregnant and up to 12 months after giving birth) or other emotional support.

If you need someone to talk to now, contact your maternity unit or you can find information on where to access urgent help on the NHS website.

You can find more information on mental health in pregnancy on the NHS website.

You are not alone! .
