Cancer screening
NHS cancer screening programmes can help to diagnose cancer or risk of cancer earlier and improve the likelihood of successful treatment.
There are three national cancer screening programmes available.
-
Cervical screening
-
Breast screening
-
Bowel screening
If you are eligible, please make every effort to have your screening test. Screening tests can detect a problem early, before you have any symptoms. Finding a problem early can mean treatment is more effective.
Screening for breast cancer is offered to women aged 50 to 70 and women aged over 70 can self-refer. More information on breast cancer screening is on the NHS website.
Cervical cancer screening (smear test) is offered to women between the ages of 25 and 64. It is offered every three years between the ages of 25 and 49 and every five years from 50 to 64 years. More information on cervical cancer screening is on the NHS website.
Bowel cancer screening is offered as a home testing kit, every two years, to those aged between 60 and 74. More information on bowel cancer screening is on the NHS website.
