Treatments not routinely funded

The Integrated Care Board receives money from the government to pay for healthcare for everyone registered with a GP in Hertfordshire and west Essex. Our job is to spend this money wisely on your behalf by paying for medicines and treatments that provide the greatest benefit to patients.

Demand for healthcare is growing, but we only have a set amount of money to spend and most of that  pays for essential services such as emergency and urgent care, GP services, community nursing, rehabilitative care, and most planned hospital care. We cannot afford to pay for everything and so we have to limit access to some healthcare and treatments based on people’s medical needs or how effective the treatment is.
