Treatment for evidence based interventions

Evidence-based treatments or interventions

We control access to some treatments and procedures where clinical evidence shows there is limited or no clinical benefit. For some treatments we prioritise access to those patients who stand to benefit most clinically.

A set of evidence based policies have been agreed both nationally and locally across Hertfordshire and West Essex to set to set out how we will make decisions on access to particular treatments, including eligibility criteria for patients. These policies are there to:

  • provide clear guidelines for clinicians
  • help determine access to treatments for patients in a way that provides the greatest possible health benefits to patients in the greatest need
  • make the best use of NHS resources for patients.

We keep policies under continual review and make changes where needed to reflect changes in factors, including the most up to date clinical evidence.

If your clinician applies for treatment under a particular policy in the last 12 months, and that policy then changes, your eligibility will be assessed based on the policy and criteria that were in place at the time of making the original application.
