Who we are and what we do

Our priorities

Our integrated care board (ICB) is one of two key components of  the Hertfordshire and West Essex Integrated Care System (ICS). The second is the integrated care partnership (ICP). They work closely together.

Overall, the Hertfordshire and West Essex Integrated Care System (ICS) is designed to:

  • improve the general health and wellbeing of Hertfordshire and west Essex residents, and improve health and care services in the area
  • tackle the inequalities which affect people’s physical and mental health, such as their ability to get the health services they need, and the quality of those services help tackle health and wider inequalities
  • get the most out of local health and care services and make sure that they are good value for money
  • help the NHS to support social and economic development in west Essex and Hertfordshire.

Visit the Hertfordshire and West Essex ICS website for more information

The ICB is the NHS element of the ICS, and it plans and oversees how NHS money is spent and makes sure health services work well and are of high quality.

The ICB’s role is to join up health and care services, improve health and wellbeing and reduce health inequalities

A strategy that sets out priorities is has been developed. It sets out matters including how we are going to use NHS resources (money and staff) to meet the health needs of local people. The plan aims to make sure that high quality NHS services, designed around your needs, are available when you need them. Read our Joint Forward Plan.
